1919 is dedicated to utilizing cultural production and abolitionist frameworks for community organizing. Our goal is to engage in long-term revolutionary action within our networks and behind and across prison walls. Read our Membership Manifesto which will give you an understanding of who we are and why we are fundamentally rooted in anti-colonial resistance, radical political education, and collective community power.
The 1919 Membership supports our programs and projects including our print and digital publication, that honours the labour of cultural workers and recognizes the emancipatory works of our community. Our audio platform 1919Radio is a space for music, conversation, and political education. Our Abolition Arts & Writing Program and our youth arts and writing workshops. Our community education platform The Community Syllabus and our ongoing commitment to building community power through the various grassroots community initiatives we organize including our partnership with the Prisoner Correspondence Project to support their penpal program, our book drive for federal prison libraries, our clothing drive for asylum seekers, as well as many other community events and activations.
We encourage our 1919 community, members and non-members, to contribute to our work how they see fit. We can support you in developing a project or resource for your community. You can receive support on your submission to our print and digital publication, participate in 1919 meetings, organize alongside our team on our projects, and support the coordination of events. All of our magazines, programs, and projects will always continue to remain open-access online.
