A Deep Dive into Sudan's Crisis with Nisrin Elamin

A Deep Dive into Sudan's Crisis with Nisrin Elamin

At the launch of our 7th Issue ‘Miseducation’, we shared an interview with Nisrin Elamin, assistant professor at the University of Toronto and member of Sudan Solidarity Collective, who broke down the ongoing crisis in Sudan for us and connected it to struggles for liberation around the world.

Nisrin Elamin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology and the African Studies Program at New College, focusing her research on the interplay between land, race, belonging, and empire in Sudan and the Sahel. She is currently developing a book based on 15 months of ethnographic fieldwork in Sudan, exploring how land ownership changes driven by domestic and Gulf corporate investments are contested within historical contexts of enclosures and colonial legacies. Elamin's academic journey includes extensive experience as an educator and researcher in the U.S., teaching roles in Tanzania, and positions at Bryn Mawr College and Columbia University prior to joining New College.
