1919 COMMUNITY SYLLABUS
1919 is excited to launch the first activation in our new Community Syllabus program. 1919’s Community Syllabus program is designed to create collective spaces for learning and grounding with each other. In response to ongoing feedback from our community and members, we have organized a reading circle for those interested in engaging with critical works relating to our current political conditions and seeking to grapple with new ideas alongside their peers. The reading circle will be the first activation within our Community Syllabus and we’re excited to continue to build this program with you all!
The text we will be reading is Donna Murch’s “Assata Taught Me.” However, we do not want this to be the standard book club; we want our gatherings to serve as a vehicle for further community action. We will be exploring themes of the text while also hoping to draw connections and other major ideas we wish to interrogate within the Community Syllabus program – i.e abolition, anti-imperialism, anti-capitalism, and internationalist struggle.
We invite those interested to sign up; this is a space for everyone at various points in their political education.
If this sounds like something of interest to you, please sign up below as we will be capping participants at 15 total members. We would like to keep this first reading circle relatively small to ensure that we can foster a sense of community building while also providing a safe and welcoming space for ideas to be shared and heard.
The reading circle will take place virtually on a bi-weekly basis – Wednesday evenings from 7pm – 8:30pm EST for a total of 5 gatherings (10 weeks) beginning September 14th, 2022.
